Add Cut to your Home Screen

Cut installs straight from the browser. There is no App Store listing, no download and no account — the whole thing takes about a minute.

On iPhone or iPad, in Safari

  1. Open this page in Safari. On iPhone and iPad only Safari can do this — Chrome and Firefox on iOS are not allowed to add a web app to the Home Screen.
  2. Tap the Share button. It is the square with an arrow pointing up out of it, in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen.” It sits under the row of share targets, in the list of actions.
  4. Tap “Add.” The Cut icon lands on your Home Screen and opens like any other app.

On Android, in Chrome

  1. Open this page in Chrome. Chrome may also raise its own install banner along the bottom of the screen — tapping that does exactly the same thing as the menu.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu. It sits in the top right corner of the browser, beside the address bar.
  3. Tap “Install app,” or “Add to Home screen” on older Chrome versions, then confirm. Cut lands in your app drawer and on your Home Screen like a normal Android app.

On a computer, in Chrome or Edge

  1. Open this page in Chrome or Edge. Any Chromium browser works, on Windows, macOS or Linux.
  2. Click the install icon in the address bar, or open the three-dot menu and choose “Install…”. The install icon is a small screen with a downward arrow in it, at the right end of the address bar.
  3. Confirm the install. Cut opens in its own window with no address bar and no tabs, and sits with your other applications.

What installing actually gets you

  • A real home-screen icon you tap like any other app — no App Store, no download, no install prompt from a store.
  • Full screen, with no address bar and no browser chrome around it.
  • It opens and works with no connection at all after the first load. The whole app is cached on the device, so logging a weigh-in on a plane, on the subway or on dead hotel wifi works exactly the same.

A private weight tracker with no account

Your body weight is health data. Cut is one HTML file that runs entirely inside your browser, so that data never has anywhere to go. It is a deliberate design choice, and it cuts both ways — here is the whole trade, both sides of it.

  • No account, no signup, no login, no email address, no password.
  • No backend, no server, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies, no ads.
  • Every weigh-in you log is stored in your browser’s localStorage, on that one device.
  • Nothing is uploaded, nothing is sold, nothing is shared — there is no second party in this app to share it with.
  • After the first load it is an offline weight tracker in the literal sense: the whole app is cached on the device, so it works in airplane mode.

How that differs from a mainstream fitness app

Most weight and fitness apps ask you to create an account before you can log anything. That is not decoration — it means your weigh-ins are transmitted to and stored on a company’s servers, governed by whatever privacy policy is in force that year, and tied to an identity that can be sold, breached or subpoenaed. Cut asks for nothing because it has nowhere to put it. If you want a weight loss tracker that works offline, or a body recomposition tracker that never sees the network, that is the entire pitch.

The honest tradeoff: local-only cuts the other way too. Nothing syncs between devices, nothing is backed up for you, and clearing your browser data or deleting the app erases your entries permanently — there is no server holding a copy to restore from. Your weight history is not encrypted either, because there is no key for anyone to hold. If the history matters to you, press Export CSV in the app every so often and keep the file somewhere safe; Import CSV loads it back, and is also how you carry a history to a new phone.

Questions people ask

Does Cut need an internet connection?

Only for the very first load. After that the app is cached on your device and opens and runs with no connection at all. The trend line, the goal line and your streak are all computed on your own phone, so airplane mode changes nothing.

Do I need an account to use Cut?

No. There is no signup, no login, no email address and no password. Open the page and log your first weigh-in.

Where is my weight data stored?

In your browser’s localStorage, on the one device you typed it into. There is no server behind this app, so nothing is uploaded and nobody, including me, can see your weight.

Does Cut sync between my phone and my laptop?

No. There is no sync and no cloud backup, so each device keeps its own separate history. To move a history across, use Export CSV on one device and Import CSV on the other.

Is Cut free?

Yes. It is free, with no trial, no paid tier, no ads and nothing locked behind a purchase. I built it to run my own cut and left it open for anyone who wants it.

How do I export my weigh-ins or get the app off my phone?

Press Export CSV to download every weigh-in as a spreadsheet file, and Import CSV to load one back in. To remove the app, press and hold its Home Screen icon and delete it, or clear this site’s data in your browser — either one erases the history on that device.

Health disclaimer

Cut is an informational self-tracking tool. It records a number you type in and draws a line through it. That is all it does, and it is not medical advice.

Nothing here is a substitute for a physician, a registered dietitian or any other qualified healthcare professional. Talk to one before starting any weight-loss, calorie-restriction or body-recomposition program, particularly if you are pregnant, under 18, or taking medication.

Do not use Cut to manage a diagnosed medical condition, and do not use it to manage or monitor an eating disorder. Daily weigh-ins and streak counts are a poor fit for disordered eating and can make it worse. If you are struggling with food or body image, please speak to a healthcare professional rather than a chart.
